Even in the 18th century. a two-story wooden log cabin stood on the site of building No. 6 of Central Square, with a hotel on the second floor. Another interesting fact is that during the years when Bukovyna was under Austrian rule, the house had number nine
In the middle of the 19th century, the main square of Chernivtsi began to be built up with solid brick and stone buildings. Since the wooden structure at the corner of Central Square and Ruska Street did not fit the general style, the owner decided to demolish the old building and build one in its place that would meet the requirements of the time and complement the architectural ensemble of the central part of the city. The result was a new three-story townhouse on a solid foundation, with large wine cellars and arched ceilings. At that time, it was the first three-story building on the square. Then the owners of the house arranged large wine cellars, exactly where several halls of the AllureInn restaurant are now located.
In the second half of the 19th century, many famous architects worked on creating exquisite designs to add to the attractiveness of Chernivtsi's main square. Most of its buildings were extended by one more (third) floor. The upper floors of the buildings on the Central Square were decorated with various fronts, balconies, pilasters, arches, capitals, balustrades, sandriks, and semi-columns. Balconies with wrought iron railings added a special appeal.
Most of the houses on the Central Square were then used as hotels - seven in total. The sixth building, where the AllureInn hotel and restaurant complex is now located, was once home to the Hutsul Hotel. Despite being one of the smallest compared to its neighbors, the hotel had a spacious inn, the so-called "han," where traveling traders could stay for the night and leave their horses or oxen in specially equipped stables.
The Hutsul Hotel was known in Bukovyna for its hospitality. In one of the first Bukovinian newspapers, Dobri Rady, which was published as a magazine headed by editor Ivan Danylevych, you can read a lot of interesting information about the history of the building where AllureInn is now located. In particular, in the sixth issue of this newspaper from 1889, you can find information that the building was owned by the Kieslinger-Fruken family.
The first floor of the building No. 6 of Central Square was rebuilt more than once. The various architectural elements were added to improve its appearance, and a small balcony with wrought-iron railings was added above the main entrance.
Since 1906, a shop selling various printing papers, owned by Leon Koenig, has been located here.
In 1908, a jewelry workshop of Karl Schulz was opened in this building.
Since 1910, it has been a shop selling European-style men's and women's suits, including Parisian and German models.
The famous Peso Rosenbaum, who sold fashionable foreign models of ladies' corsets of various sizes, became the owner of the building in 1912.
In 1930, a jewelry store owned by Philippe Medilansky was opened in one of the premises. Also on one of the floors, the famous doctor Maria Moldovan-Isopescu treated patients with female ailments.
The Mekhanika company, headed by engineer Armond Ruich, moved into house No. 6 in 1937.
Under the Soviet authorities, the building was nationalized and the second and third floors were used for residential purposes. On the ground floor, there was first a mechanical workshop where knives and scissors were sharpened; then a shop selling pies and ice cream was opened; then a workshop was opened again, but this time for the repair of musical instruments, and later a large watchmaking workshop that occupied three rooms. Not only did they repair broken watches, but they also made individual parts for them. For a certain period after the war, it was the only one in the entire city.
In the semi-basement on the side of Ruska Street, a well-known Chernivtsi cafe-metein was located, where they sold natural Moldovan wine and cooked delicious Bukovinian cuisine. The entrance to the cafe used to be right off Ruska Street, but it was soon moved around the corner.
After the reconstruction, which was completed in October 2013, the corner building of the Central Square of Chernivtsi harmoniously complements the overall architectural ensemble of the city.
When opening the AllureInn hotel and restaurant complex, the only one on the city's Central Square, the current owners of the building tried to keep its appearance close to the original. They did their best to return the building to its historical purpose - to create a cozy and friendly atmosphere, and most importantly, to become a symbol of hospitality, always characteristic of Bukovyna residents.
